This T-shirt has a striking design that captures the work of RAF Quick Reaction Alert Squadrons during the dark days of the Cold War. Using GCI (Ground Controlled Interception) Phantoms and Lightnings were scrambled to intercept Russian aircraft ‘wandering’ into UK airspace. The Tupolev Tu-95’s or Bear’s were often confronted by armed RAF fighters firing passive homing missiles. GCI has since been replaced with Airborne Early Warning and Control systems. These AEW aircraft patrol our UK skies as well as in overseas conflicts. The RAF Typhoon F2 now operates out of Lossiemouth and Coningsby still in the QRA – ‘Bear Hunting’ role.
We digitally print using an Epson Surecolor F2100. The process involves spraying the image area with a water-based glue so the fabric will accept the coloured ink. The shirt is then heat-pressed to cure the ink. When the shirt is new, the sprayed area will appear faintly behind the design with the odd splatter of glue. This will disappear in the first wash. We recommend washing inside out on a cold wash and do not tumble dry. All our shirts will have a removable Flyingraphics tag and will be sealed in a clear plastic bag to keep the shirt fresh and clean.
